On the coral sands of Christmas Island, Calypso was born a little different, with one claw smaller than the other. Some crabs whisper that she will never keep up, least of all at the island's dazzling Silver-Moon dance. But when the doubt starts to sting, her wise grandmother tells her to turn what feels like a weakness into art. So night after night, in secret, Calypso practices, until two mismatched claw-beats become one bright, clicking rhythm all her own. Then the moon rises, the drums begin, and it is her turn to step onto the sand.
